Thoughts: Street Fighter IV

So I picked up Street Fighter IV yesterday. I never really followed the game when it was revealed because the look turned me off so much and I thought they were going to EX-it-up again. Thankfully, that isn't the case, and SFIV is actually a pretty decent game. Not as good as the classic games, but a nice installment in the series. Head past the break for a breakdown of its pros and cons, as far as I think.
Things I really loathe:
- Throwing is so broken, it's not even funny. There are a crazy amount of unblockable throws and pretty much every time you get up, there's a window to get a grab off on you. Playing against Abel is like the cheapest thing besides playing the boss, Seth.
- The game's speed seems slower than previous Street Fighters. I know it's not Turbo or anything, nor would I want it to be, but things like Hurricane kicks and basically all of Blanka's moves are much slower now.
- Every character has 1 super move. It's not the biggest problem, but some characters have had their GOOD super moves replaced with ones that were worse in the past.
- Can't have more than one person in online lobbies. They need this patched stat.
- Can't access move lists while playing online. You can't even hit pause. With so many new fighters, this is frustrating when trying to relax and enjoy some SFIV with friends for the first time.
- Rufus is retarded. Seriously.
Things I really like:
- The detail on animations is amazing. The way their faces lights up when you're unleashing a finishing move is priceless. The facial animations are very well done. Kudos, Capcom, on making these characters seem so lifelike.
- EX moves are crazy awesome. Seriously, they were fun in Street Fighter III, but they've been improved ten fold here in SFIV. They make moves that much stronger and it seems very balanced as far as when you get an EX block filled.
- Like almost no loading in the game. Seriously, I may have seen a collective 10 seconds of the loading screen while playing it the past two days.
- The soundtrack is great. The new tracks are toe-tappers and the remixed versions of older tracks are equally as fun. It's all upbeat and really complements the gameplay a lot.
- New characters really improve the game (save for Rufus, because he has no business being in this game). Abel is a very unique character and has a lot of good counters, but is made better through the throw exploits. C. Viper is like Terry Bogard on crack. She's a lot tougher, and not as fast. El Fuerte is a madman and moves at the speed of light. A lot of his moves are jump throws and other speedy lunges. He's the fastest guy in the game and really fun to use. Rufus is stupid. Seriously, Luke Skywalker needs to slice his belly open and sleep inside of him like a Tauntaun. Fat, useless bastard.
