Ethan Mars gets Crunk with the kids

I wanted to do something cool for my 2,000th Tweet -- the jury is still out on that, but, hey, it's an hour of work you got out of me. In the high stakes world of ridiculous internet videos, I hope that sixty minutes will at least equate to one individual's enjoyment. If I've succeeded there, then I can feel good about this three minute long attempt at humor.

I'm going insane, aren't I?

Quick ‘n Dirty Review: Heavy Rain (PS3)

Heavy Rain is way more grounded than Indigo Prophecy and never takes the weird, out-of-left-field twists and turns Cage's previous title did. Because of that, Heavy Rain ends up being a far more compelling and interesting narrative -- but there's still plenty of problems here.

The One Book a Month Project: Snow Crash

So I'm 1/1 with my new endeavor: The One Book a Month Project. As Mike Schramm suggested -- actually, it was more of a threat, because being an individual who works on the internet, by law I wasn't allowed to continue working in the vast series of pipes until I've read Snow Crash. So, I went with Snow Crash.

Apparently, I'm super late to the party, which is fine, but, guys, what a book! Great ideas behind not only the evolution of the internet (and a playful, almost whimsical outlook on the overpopulation and impoverished road this country is headed down), but some interesting comparisons to religion and viruses. I don't want to spoil it for anyone who has yet to read it (and, please, don't drop a comment or link to the Wikipedia page if you're reading this), but it's one of the more interesting and fun books I've ever read. Thanks, Mike!

The Secret Armory of General Knoxx

I wrote up a piece for The Secret Armory of General Knoxx -- the latest DLC add-on for Borderlands -- over at Joystiq. The biggest issue I had with it was just how crazy tough it was, for even my level 50 Siren with all of her SMG and melee buffs. I died so many damn times. Here's an excerpt:

I was in for a surprise as I set out for The Secret Armory of General Knoxx with a level 50 character, because as beefy as I thought my Siren was, she couldn't stand up to what was waiting for me at T-Bone Junction and beyond. Basically, I died. All of the time. I went from having around four million dollars in my bank account down to under a million before I even gained my first level in the DLC -- the hefty cost of respawning in the wilds of Pandora. And that's what made this whole thing so odd.

Head on over to Joystiq to read the whole thing.

StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty Beta impressions at Joystiq

I've been playing the stuff out of the StarCraft 2 beta and managed to plug some of my thoughts on it into that Joystiq.com webspace site. Here's an excerpt:

Here's the thing about the StarCraft II beta: you've played this game before. In the time I've spent with the beta over the past 24-plus hours, I've been Zerg rushed, I've had my buildings annihilated by a group of Reapers that snuck through the back of my fortified area, and I've had Protoss ships lay waste to countless heavy Thor units -- which looked like they could have taken on anything and survived. And here's the other thing: I absolutely loved every minute of it, as familiar as it was.

Head on over and give it a read! That's not, like, an order or anything -- unless you want it to be or whatever.

My Halo 3 Highlight Reel

As a dude who's been playing Halo 3 for longer than anyone probably should, I've accrued a pretty healthy amount of "oh, shit!" moments. Thanks to the game, you can save those in your file share -- and thanks to my inability to get into a decent match for a good while today (and my precious capture equipment), I've now got a highlight reel on my site. Hopefully it's not the worst Halo 3 footage on the internet!

Pure White Lover Bizarre Jelly 5 makes me feel very, very awkward

Wow. I mean, I know Suda51 is out there and the first half-hour or so of No More Heroes 2 was crammed with plenty of tit shots, but this is just... wow. I'm dumbstruck. It seems like it's hentai for pedophiles. Seriously, what the funk?!

At least the Pure White Lover Bizarre Jelly 5 shmup is fun.

Quick ‘n Dirty Review: Mass Effect 2 (Xbox 360)

So, I'm just going to say it: Mass Effect 2 is the best game I've ever played in my life. It's not something I say lightly, as Bioware's latest outing manages to shove its way to the top of a very prestigious ladder littered with top-notch titles like Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Oddworld: Abe's Oddysey, Half-Life, Flashback, Secret of Mana and many, many more. But, there it is: Mass Effect 2 has managed to make me care for a fictional universe and its inhabitants more than anything else I've ever experienced in my life.
