Quick ‘n Dirty Review: Heavy Rain (PS3)
Heavy Rain is way more grounded than Indigo Prophecy and never takes the weird, out-of-left-field twists and turns Cage's previous title did. Because of that, Heavy Rain ends up being a far more compelling and interesting narrative -- but there's still plenty of problems here.
Quick ‘n Dirty Review: Mass Effect 2 (Xbox 360)
So, I'm just going to say it: Mass Effect 2 is the best game I've ever played in my life. It's not something I say lightly, as Bioware's latest outing manages to shove its way to the top of a very prestigious ladder littered with top-notch titles like Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Oddworld: Abe's Oddysey, Half-Life, Flashback, Secret of Mana and many, many more. But, there it is: Mass Effect 2 has managed to make me care for a fictional universe and its inhabitants more than anything else I've ever experienced in my life.
2009: A Year in Reviews
Wow, I wrote a lot of reviews this year. Since it's the first week of 2010, I figured I'd gather all of the links and house them in one convenient place. Aside from the abundance of Joystiq reviews, I also started my own Quick 'n Dirty Reviews here. Head past the break for the linkage and I hope you find the reviews helpful/informative/not completely boring!
Quick ‘n Dirty Review: Assassin’s Creed 2 (Xbox 360)
Assassin's Creed 2 is an improvement on the first title in every single possible way. Before you haters of the first game think that means you'll like this, know you probably won't. At its core, it's still very much the same game: a sandbox-style title with some stealth and a very simple, yet highly intuitive, combat system. That said, I could not put it down from start to finish.
Quick ‘n Dirty Review: Uncharted 2 (PS3)
Uncharted 2 is Game of the Year. It feels odd to say that before Modern Warfare 2 releases and before I'll get a chance to play (and love) Assassin's Creed 2, but it seems like the odds stacked against those two very high-profile games are insurmountable; Uncharted 2 is about as close to integrating a big budget blockbuster film with the immersion and gameplay of a top-notch AAA title as you can get.
Quick ‘n Dirty Review: South Park Let’s Go Tower Defense Play! (XBLA)
South Park Let's Go Tower Defense is quite the surprise. Developed by Doublesix Games, it's not a revelation in the tower defense genre, but it uses its license well and combines it with solid design to create a fun experience that is easy to pick up and play -- doubly so for even a mild South Park fan.
Quick ‘n Dirty Review: Scribblenauts (DS)
Scribblenauts emerged from E3 with about as much hype as a non-Modern Warfare 2 game could possibly accrue. Now that it's finally in the hands of gamers, it seems some of that hype isn't really justified -- personally, I think people are taking this all the wrong way. The game's impact is directly proportionate to how creative and imaginative you are as a human being. If you're willing to just go through the motions and come under par as much as you possible can on each stage, you're missing the point.
Quick ‘n Dirty Review: Wet (Xbox 360)
In an attempt to get more content on my blog (it's starving, the poor little guy!), I'm going to try and do brief reviews for games I'm playing to supplement the other random junk that finds its way here. Hence, the quick 'n dirty review. In this edition, I'll be talking about Artificial Mind and Movement's Wet.
