Quick ‘n Dirty Review: Mass Effect 2 (Xbox 360)

So, I'm just going to say it: Mass Effect 2 is the best game I've ever played in my life. It's not something I say lightly, as Bioware's latest outing manages to shove its way to the top of a very prestigious ladder littered with top-notch titles like Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Oddworld: Abe's Oddysey, Half-Life, Flashback, Secret of Mana and many, many more. But, there it is: Mass Effect 2 has managed to make me care for a fictional universe and its inhabitants more than anything else I've ever experienced in my life.

Quick ‘n Dirty Review: Assassin’s Creed 2 (Xbox 360)

ac2qnd_dpAssassin's Creed 2 is an improvement on the first title in every single possible way. Before you haters of the first game think that means you'll like this, know you probably won't. At its core, it's still very much the same game: a sandbox-style title with some stealth and a very simple, yet highly intuitive, combat system. That said, I could not put it down from start to finish.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii review for Joystiq

nsmbwrevdpMy latest review for the best gaming blog around just went live. Here's an excerpt of my thoughts on New Super Mario Bros. Wii:

New Super Mario Bros. Wii isn't a game for you to play by yourself. Sure, you could, but it's just not going to be the best way to extract all of the fun the experience has to offer. Instead, you really should try to corral some friends together for multiplayer, which is guaranteed to do one of two things: strengthen the bonds you and your three partners in platforming have established, or take those friendships you've worked so hard on over an indeterminate amount of time and stomp them like a lost, lonely Goomba.

Head on over to Joystiq to read the full thing.

A Boy and His Blob review for Joystiq

aboyandhisblobjoystiqreviewMy review for A Boy and His Blob (I always type "blog" first, then have to erase it) has gone live at Joystiq. Here's an excerpt:

A Boy and His Blob tells the story of an extra-terrestrial, amorphous lifeform and his young handler as they combat an evil emperor, hellbent on doing what all evil emperors want to do: kill most and rule over what's left. The only thing standing in this extreme evildoer's way is the boy's willingness to feed the Blob different jellybeans, which cause him -- it? -- to transform into different shapes, thereby overcoming the game's many obstacles.

Quick ‘n Dirty Review: Scribblenauts (DS)

qndscrib535Scribblenauts emerged from E3 with about as much hype as a non-Modern Warfare 2 game could possibly accrue. Now that it's finally in the hands of gamers, it seems some of that hype isn't really justified  -- personally, I think people are taking this all the wrong way. The game's impact is directly proportionate to how creative and imaginative you are as a human being. If you're willing to just go through the motions and come under par as much as you possible can on each stage, you're missing the point.

Quick ‘n Dirty Review: Wet (Xbox 360)

wetquickndirty540In an attempt to get more content on my blog (it's starving, the poor little guy!), I'm going to try and do brief reviews for games I'm playing to supplement the other random junk that finds its way here. Hence, the quick 'n dirty review. In this edition, I'll be talking about Artificial Mind and Movement's Wet.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story review for Joystiq

dphmarioandluigibis

My review for Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story went live on Joystiq this morning. Here's an excerpt:

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story doesn't put on airs about itself. Up until now, the series has been a collection of chuckle-filled titles, with light action and RPG elements designed to make the game accessible to just about everyone -- and this latest game is no different. It's plain and direct in what it wants to be, but it's set apart from its predecessors in a deepening of the core aspects of the series.

Check it out here and if you're interested in reading any more of my reviews, check out my reviews page.

Gears of War 2 ‘Dark Corners’ features for Joystiq

dommarcusroadtoruinrev580

I did a pair of features for Joystiq on Gears of War 2's 'Dark Corners' DLC, which is set to drop on Xbox Live next week. There's a review of Road to Ruin -- a deleted scene from the campaign -- and a video tour of the new multiplayer maps. Check 'em out!
