Shepard May Have A Drinking Problem
I don't know what I laughed about more during this exhange: Shepard going from zero to ridiculously drunk in about sixty seconds or the fact that Miranda's in the Men's room. The quiet disapproval on the squad's faces after Shepard wakes up on the Men's room floor is also pretty hilarious. I think right about when you're so drunk, you're laying in piss -- it's time to re-evaluate your life.
Do it!
I Ran Into This Weird Mass Effect 2 Glitch
The video pretty much explains it all. I was on Daratar, doing the Eclipse Cache mission, when I ran towards a rock and was vaulted into the air. My team (obviously) followed. They're a dedicated bunch!
Hands-On: Bible Navigator X (Xbox 360)
I was hoping for a bit more "XTREEEME" in my copy of Bible Navigator X, but lo and behold the Indie Games title on Xbox 360 was more or less a plain old version of the bible ... on my Xbox 360. I've no idea why anyone would need the bible on their Xbox 360, but c'est la vie. Check out my video for Joystiq above.
The One Book a Month Project: What Do I Start With?
Given that my job requires I write a ton, I've always felt like I should be reading more. In my spare time (when not playing video games, which is pretty much always), I've been working on a few ideas for books. This has only compounded by desire to be reading more. So, I've decided to do something about it: The One Book a Month Project. One book, one month, that's it.
The only thing is I need a suggestion where to start. Every book I own, I've already read (used to thrift store it up a lot when I lived in FL, which is where most of my collection hails from). So, give me a good idea for a book. It can be almost anything -- no romance novels, please. I get enough of that being friends with countless attractive individuals with love lives far more interesting than mine.
So, yeah. Thanks! I'll start the 1st of February.
Interview with Glen Schofield
Glen Schofield, the guy who came up with that very awesome Dead Space game you should've played, recently chatted with me as part of a feature for Joystiq, the site I work for. It was a great interview and Glen spoke rather candidly in our phone conversation and I think it turned out pretty well. He was one of the better interview subjects I've dealt with in my years working in the games biz -- right up there with Richard Ham -- so feel free to hop on over and check it out.
2009: A Year in Reviews
Wow, I wrote a lot of reviews this year. Since it's the first week of 2010, I figured I'd gather all of the links and house them in one convenient place. Aside from the abundance of Joystiq reviews, I also started my own Quick 'n Dirty Reviews here. Head past the break for the linkage and I hope you find the reviews helpful/informative/not completely boring!
Best of the Rest: Dave’s Picks of 2009
The following is a feature I submitted to Joystiq, reprinted here in its entirety. Also, be sure to check out Joystiq's Top 10 of 2009, where I contributed a piece on Borderlands.
I've long been a fan of the Resident Evil series, and while the campaign here has problems and should never be played solo, the Mercenaries mode is what kept me coming back. Those action-packed levels spent trying to survive while running low on ammo and health were some of my most chaotic, yet highly enjoyable, experiences of 2009.
